DEXA Body Composition
DXA (Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) will tell the participant a lot of information on their body composition! Body composition testing can be useful for someone who is working with a nutritionist and is looking to lose weight, an athlete who wants to make sure they do not lose muscle mass, or someone who is concerned about their bone density. The device will scan the body and report how much body fat is located on separate limbs and the torso. The amount of fat can be an indicator for metabolic disease or cardiovascular disease. This can help the individual taking the test understand how much body fat they need to lose in order to lower their chance of acquiring any of these diseases. The data presented can be important to body builders who are trying to “bulk” or slim down. The test takes 3-5 minutes and is completely un-invasive.
