YMCA Submaximal Exercise Test

The YMCA Submaximal Exercise Test is a cardiovascular fitness assessment commonly used to estimate an individual's maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) without requiring them to exert their maximum effort. The test involves measuring heart rate response to submaximal exercise on a treadmill or cycle ergometer. Typically, the test consists of several stages with increasing intensity, and the individual's heart rate is recorded at each stage. This type of submaximal testing is useful for assessing cardiovascular fitness in a relatively safe and practical manner, making it suitable for a wide range of populations, including those who may have limitations or health concerns that prevent them from performing maximal exertion tests.
