Performance Assessments
We are here to answer your health and performance related questions! We can test your aerobic fitness! Our lab can give you information on how much body fat you have and how that can affect your long term health. We can tell you how many calories you burn a day or doing a workout! We can test the strength of your limbs and look at imbalances between left and right. We can also help optimize your training for any event like a marathon or triathlon! With our tests we can tell you where and how you should be training for the big day!
The VO2 max test can tell someone how aerobically fit they are! Participants will bike or run for 8-12 minutes until they can no longer continue. The test begins at a light intensity and gets progressively harder.
The Substrate Utilization Test is used to measure which energy source (carbs or fats) an athlete uses at different levels of exercise intensity. This test can be very beneficial for endurance athletes such as marathoners and triathletes! With the results from this test athletes can define their training intensities like zone 2.
This Biodex Muscular Strength Assessment measures isokinetic muscular strength in an individual at specific joints. Isokinetic strength measures strength under a constant speed. Rather than having the same resistance, the speed stays constant and the resistance changes to maintain that constant speed. The participant will be strapped to a chair and then push and pull against an attachment with the desired joint.
A lactate threshold test can be useful for an endurance athlete who is looking to improve how fast they can go for an extended period of time. This test shows the athlete at what heart rate they start producing lactate and at which heart rate they begin producing more lactate than they are capable of clearing out. This information can be useful when prescribing training intensity during a program.
Conducting a gait analysis in an exercise science laboratory offers a multitude of benefits for individuals looking to optimize their movement efficiency, prevent injuries, and enhance athletic performance. By utilizing advanced technology and expertise, a gait analysis provides detailed insights into biomechanical factors such as stride length, foot strike pattern, joint angles, and muscle activation patterns during walking or running.

The Bod Pod is a test designed to analyze body composition in an individual. This test will give the subject information on their body fat percentage and free fat mass. The individual can then re-test their body composition after completing a training cycle to see what body composition changes have been made from their training.
DEXA (Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) will tell the participant a lot of information on their body composition! This data can be useful for someone who is working with a nutritionist and is looking to lose weight, an athlete who wants to make sure they do not lose muscle mass, or someone who is concerned about their bone density

After undergoing surgery such as ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) reconstruction, engaging in exercise testing is crucial to ensure a safe and successful return to sports participation. This testing serves as a vital checkpoint to assess the readiness of the individual's knee and overall physical condition for the demands of sports activities.
Utilizing Force Plates and Laser Timers, we can evaluate the metrics of an athlete's counter movement jump, squat jump, 5-10-5 agility, sprint, and more. We can use these metrics to give the athlete insights into their performance and track progress over time.
The Wingate anaerobic bike test involves maximal pedaling against resistance for a short duration, measuring peak power output, anaerobic capacity, and fatigue resistance. Come try out this strength assessment!
Through a variety of questions, a Mental Resilience Test will help you better understand your self-talk and the ability you have to push past the limits you initially never thought of overcoming.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sport Mental Health Assessment Tool 1 (SMHAT-1) is a standardized assessment tool aiming to identify at an early stage athletes potentially at risk for or already experiencing mental health symptoms and disorders, in order to facilitate timely referral of those in need to adequate support and/or treatment.
